What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Call us right away if you’re experiencing any of the following: severe or worsening tooth pain (especially with swelling), a knocked-out (avulsed) adult tooth, a fractured or broken tooth, a tooth that has been pushed out of position, a lost filling or crown on a tooth that hurts, swelling of the face or jaw, persistent bleeding after dental work, or any oral injury from an accident or sports impact. Quick treatment can be the difference between saving a tooth and losing it — especially with knocked-out teeth, where the window for successful reimplantation is only 30–60 minutes.
Same-Day Availability at SOL Dental Arts
We reserve daily appointment blocks specifically for emergency patients. If you call (917) 983-4560 during practice hours, in most cases we can see you the same day — and often within a few hours. If you’re calling after hours, leave a detailed voicemail and we will return your call as soon as possible the next business day. For life-threatening emergencies — uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing from severe swelling, or trauma involving the jaw or facial bones — call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room.
Most Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
Severe toothache. Usually caused by deep decay, a cracked tooth, or an abscessed tooth. Same-day diagnosis and pain relief, followed by definitive treatment (filling, root canal, or extraction depending on the cause).
Knocked-out tooth. If possible, hold the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse gently if dirty, and either reinsert it into the socket or store it in milk while heading to the office. Time matters.
Broken or fractured tooth. Same-day repair with composite bonding, a temporary crown, or in some cases a CAD/CAM same-visit ceramic restoration thanks to our in-house lab.
Lost filling or crown. Often repaired same-day. Save the crown if possible — sometimes it can be re-bonded.
Dental abscess. Localized swelling, throbbing pain, and possible fever. Requires prompt drainage, antibiotics, and definitive treatment to prevent the infection from spreading.
Soft tissue injury. Cuts or punctures to the lips, gums, or cheeks. We assess and treat oral lacerations and refer for hospital-level care when warranted.
What to Do Until You Get to the Office
For pain, take an over-the-counter pain reliever you tolerate (ibuprofen if not contraindicated). For swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of the face. For a knocked-out tooth, keep it moist in milk, saliva, or saline. For a fractured tooth, rinse gently with warm water and avoid chewing on that side. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum or tooth — it can cause chemical burns.
Cost, Insurance, and Payment
Emergency dental visits start with a diagnostic exam (and X-ray if needed) to identify the cause of the problem. From there we explain treatment options and pricing before proceeding. SOL Dental Arts is out-of-network with most plans; we provide a detailed estimate, submit claims on your behalf, and discuss financing options for larger treatment if you need it. Pain relief is the immediate priority — definitive treatment can be scheduled in stages.

Information on Cosmetic Services offered
What Cosmetic Dentistry Can Improve?
Cosmetic dentistry may be used to address a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including chipped teeth, worn edges, uneven tooth shape, discoloration, spacing, small lateral incisors, asymmetry, and smiles that no longer feel as polished or youthful as they once did. In many cases, improvement is achieved through conservative treatment planning that enhances the smile while respecting natural anatomy.
Our Approach to Smile Enhancement
At SOL Dental Arts, cosmetic treatment is planned with attention to proportion, translucency, contour, smile line, and facial harmony. We evaluate not only how the teeth look individually, but how they work together within the smile as a whole. This allows us to recommend treatment that feels elegant, refined, and appropriate for the individual patient rather than generic or overdone.
Treatment Options That May Be Included
Depending on the case, cosmetic dentistry may involve composite bonding, veneers, whitening, selective contouring, replacement of failing bonding, or a more comprehensive smile refinement plan. Some patients benefit from a small enhancement to one or two teeth, while others may be candidates for a broader treatment approach designed to improve the overall balance of the smile.
