Brighter results, gentler than over-the-counter
Teeth Whitening in Maspeth, Queens
Refined cosmetic dentistry designed to improve smile harmony, confidence, and natural-looking aesthetics.
Professional teeth whitening at SOL Dental Arts in Maspeth, Queens safely lifts years of staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and natural enamel aging — delivering brighter, more uniform results than any over-the-counter product can match. Both in-office whitening and custom take-home whitening are available, planned and supervised by Columbia University-trained dentists Dr. Arthur Volker, DDS and Dr. Aadel Soleymani, DDS.
In-Office vs Custom Take-Home Whitening
In-office whitening delivers the most dramatic single-visit result. A high-concentration whitening gel is applied to your teeth in a controlled clinical setting, often activated by a light, with isolation of the gums and lips to prevent irritation. Most patients walk out several shades brighter after a single 60–90 minute visit. Ideal for events, weddings, or anyone who wants results fast.
Custom take-home whitening uses precision-fit trays we make from a digital scan of your teeth, paired with professional-strength gel you apply at home for short sessions over 10–14 days. The result is comparable to in-office whitening but stretched over a couple of weeks — and the trays last for years, so future touch-up sessions are essentially free.
Many patients choose a combined approach: an in-office session to jumpstart the change, followed by take-home trays for fine-tuning and long-term maintenance.
What Whitening Can (and Can’t) Do
Whitening is highly effective at removing yellowing from coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, and natural aging of healthy enamel. It’s less effective on stains caused by tetracycline antibiotics taken in childhood, deeply discolored single teeth from prior trauma or root canal treatment, or surface staining masking white spots or fluorosis — those cases may need bonding or veneers in addition to (or instead of) whitening. Critically: whitening does not change the color of existing crowns, veneers, or composite fillings. If you’re planning veneers or new crowns in front teeth, we typically whiten first, then color-match the new dentistry to your brighter natural shade.
Sensitivity, Side Effects, and How We Manage Them
Mild, temporary tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect of professional whitening — usually lasting 24–48 hours. We use desensitizing protocols (potassium nitrate, fluoride varnishes, custom gel concentration) to minimize this, and patients with significant sensitivity are typically better candidates for slower take-home whitening rather than high-concentration in-office sessions. Whitening done under professional supervision is far gentler on the tooth and gums than aggressive at-home products.
Whitening Before Veneers, Crowns, or Bonding
Order matters. If your smile makeover plan includes new front-tooth dentistry, we whiten your natural teeth first, let the color stabilize for 1–2 weeks, and then design your veneers, crowns, or bonding to match the new, brighter natural shade. Whitening after these restorations are placed will only change the natural teeth around them — creating a mismatch.
Maintaining Your Results
Whitening results last 1–3 years depending on diet, habits, and routine maintenance. Reduce frequent exposure to coffee, tea, red wine, dark soda, and tobacco. Rinse with water after staining drinks and brush twice daily. Brief touch-up sessions with your custom take-home trays every 6–12 months keep the result looking fresh long-term.

Information on Cosmetic Services offered
What Cosmetic Dentistry Can Improve?
Cosmetic dentistry may be used to address a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including chipped teeth, worn edges, uneven tooth shape, discoloration, spacing, small lateral incisors, asymmetry, and smiles that no longer feel as polished or youthful as they once did. In many cases, improvement is achieved through conservative treatment planning that enhances the smile while respecting natural anatomy.
Our Approach to Smile Enhancement
At SOL Dental Arts, cosmetic treatment is planned with attention to proportion, translucency, contour, smile line, and facial harmony. We evaluate not only how the teeth look individually, but how they work together within the smile as a whole. This allows us to recommend treatment that feels elegant, refined, and appropriate for the individual patient rather than generic or overdone.
Treatment Options That May Be Included
Depending on the case, cosmetic dentistry may involve composite bonding, veneers, whitening, selective contouring, replacement of failing bonding, or a more comprehensive smile refinement plan. Some patients benefit from a small enhancement to one or two teeth, while others may be candidates for a broader treatment approach designed to improve the overall balance of the smile.
