Same-Day Dental Crowns in Maspeth, Queens: How CAD/CAM Crowns Work

A same-day CAD/CAM crown uses digital scanning, computer design, and in-office milling to restore a damaged tooth in a single visit when the case is appropriate. Instead of wearing a temporary crown while a lab fabricates the final one, many patients can leave with the final ceramic crown the same day.

When a crown is needed

A crown may be recommended when a tooth has a large crack, major fracture, large old filling, root canal treatment, or too little healthy structure for a simple filling. The crown covers and protects the remaining tooth. The goal is to conserve what is healthy while restoring strength, contour, bite, and cleanability.

How the one-visit process works

The tooth is evaluated, prepared, and scanned digitally. The crown is designed on-screen, milled from a ceramic block, adjusted, polished or characterized, and bonded or cemented the same day. Digital scanning avoids traditional impression material, and in-office milling can reduce the number of visits for many posterior and selected anterior cases.

What same-day crowns are good for

Same-day CAD/CAM crowns are especially useful for cracked back teeth, broken cusps, large failing fillings, and situations where avoiding a temporary crown is helpful. They can also be useful when patients have limited time, provided the tooth, bite, material choice, and esthetic needs fit the same-day workflow.

When a lab crown may still be better

Some front-tooth cases, highly complex shade matches, implant restorations, or large bite reconstructions may still benefit from a dental laboratory. Same-day does not automatically mean better; it means efficient when the clinical situation fits. A dentist should recommend the workflow that gives the best final result.

How long do CAD/CAM crowns last?

Longevity depends on diagnosis, ceramic selection, tooth preparation, bonding, bite, home care, and regular maintenance. A well-made same-day crown can serve for many years. Like any crown, it still needs brushing, flossing, monitoring at the margins, and protection from grinding or heavy bite forces.
